Motion
Artist Statement :
Motion. It can be of anything, an object rolling across the floor or just someone walking on the street. But what makes the photo really interesting? Yes, it can be just what you captured and that is movement. But showing emotion in the picture can also make it really interesting. And that's what i wanted to capture in my photographs emotions of people. For example, the first one of photography student Braxton. It shows pure happiness, like he is having fun. Then the one of the ocean, the waves about to crash on the shore, family's seeming like they're having a great time and the bird flying in the sky. These photos still show motion in them but just with a little emotion.

Long/Short Depth of field
Artist Statement:
For this assignment I decided to use a digital camera to capture long and short depth of field. At first i had a little trouble figuring out what to photograph to capture long and short depth of field, but once i started walking around and taking pictures, i started to get ideas. I wanted to capture an almost eerie vibe to my photographs, and the first picture above is a example of what i wanted to capture. What i like about that picture is that the way the medal parts on the side of photography student, Zoe Doughty, brings your eye to her and makes that long depth of field. I also tried to capture nature, and a good example of that is of the last one of the flowers. I liked how the yellow slowly fades and how the green in the background makes the yellow pop out more.

Light
Artist Statement:
For this assignment I chose to do portraits using natural light and artificial light. And the reason i chose to do portraits for this assignment is because when you are photographing a person you can catch so many emotions in their faces, and lighting helps capture it better. You can see more details in the persons face when using artificial lighting, and with natural light it gives the person a softer tone to their faces that makes the picture more realistic and natural. Using artificial lights also helps make your subject the main focus of your photograph. And a example for that would be my last picture, the light gives the apple [the subject] a dark tone to it which gets your attention, and also the light is sort of leading towards the subject in the middle where it is slowly fading leaving a shadow that also gets your attention.

Making a change...
Artist Statement:
When I first heard about this assignment I didn't know exactly what to do for it, I kept going back and forth on what my whole concept should be about. Until i thought about what the world has gone through and is still going through, and that is racism, sexism, and etc. The reason i chose this to be my topic was because, many people go through hatred in there lives for just being who they are, it doesn't matter whether you are Hispanic, black, white, Muslim. I wanted to show that even though we are all different, we are all still beautiful from the inside and out.

Still Life
Artist Statement:
At first i did not know what to photograph for my still life, I went back and forth with photographing wrinkled vegetables with an old vase, to an old telephone. But none of it had a meaning to me, so I started shooting with film to photograph a camera. And the reason i chose to do my still life based on a camera is because a camera to me means everything, it is with what i use to capture beautiful moments. I also photographed a mannequin as a still life because there are moments where we feel like we have to be this perfect image like a doll/mannequin, and we are stuck; frozen in time like a mannequin.

Landscapes
Artist Statement:
Like many other assignments i have troubles at first thinking what to photograph, but after a while i slowly start getting ideas. And for this assignment my main focus was to capture the beauty in nature. The day i captured these images it was a snowy day, i knew that it would be a perfect day to get landscape pictures because of the snow. At first i thought that it would be a little hard since i wasn't really able to go out other then outside my house. But then i realized that it was the perfect place to get my landscape pictures. I spent half the morning being outside my back yard and front taking pictures. And by the end of the morning, once i went over all the pictures, i selected a few of my best that i thought showed the beauty in nature. By the end of the day i ended up with the five pictures i wanted to use for my assignment. And the reason i chose these pictures in particular was not only because I thought it showed the beauty in nature, but also because it showed how peaceful nature can be.

Portraits
Artist Statement:
Media has always portrayed this perfect image women should be. And because of that, many young girls think that they have to look a certain way, act a certain way or even be someone else to look beautiful, but in reality they don't. But sadly this actually happens, and that's how their self esteem can go down, so for this assignment I wanted my portraits to show not only the beauty, but also the carefree classy side of young women from them just being themselves.

Concentration
Artist Statement:
For my concentration I will be focusing mostly on face expression and their hands. And the reason being for this is because i feel like both can tell a lot about the people. Their hands express their feelings with movements, and their face expressions show their emotions when they don't know how to with word. And when you combine both you get the perfect image. |
